The Lost tribe
ONE-EYE
One-Eye was the only one of the original seventeen Wolfriders who died during
the Original Quest. He was killed by a troll in the Frozen Mountains, just
before the Palace War begun. Leetah healed his body, but his spirit escaped,
and would not return to the shell. His body lived on in wrapstuff for three
more years, until Clearbrook released it.
CHEIPAR
Pike, Skot and Krim's first son, he died in the Thorny Mountain Holt. It is not
known how old he was when he died - he could have been anything from a few days
to a few months old when he died (begging the question why was he not put in
wrapstuff, regardless of the Way?)
WOODLOCK
Woodlock and Rainsong decided to stay in the Sun Village when the Wolfriders
first left to find Cutter in the Original Quest, and stayed in Sorrow's End
until they died, about 3500 years after the Palace disappeared. Woodlock
probably took over as one of the Jackwolf Riders after Dart and Scouter went
into wrapstuff. Woodlock was one of the only Wolfriders to die of old age.
RAINSONG
Rainsong bore three children in less than twelve years, an incredible feat by
elfin standards. A devoted mother, she raised her three cubs in the peace and
safety of Sorrow's End. She did not go into wrapstuff with her children Newstar
and Mender, but lived out her life with her lifemate Woodlock, dying of old age
several millennia later.
NEWSTAR'S LIFEMATE
There has never been a picture of Newstar's unnamed mate, but it is known that
he died in the war with the Go-Backs just moments before Kimo (possibly
distracted by his father's murder) was mortally wounded and sealed in
wrapstuff.
WING
Like his parents, Wing lived out his natural life in Sorrow's End, living
perhaps an extra few hundred years after his parents' deaths. He raised a
daughter, Serrin, with his Sun Folk lifemate Behtia, and recorded the years
that passed with pebbles in a jar. He was almost killed once in the Go-Back
war, but was saved in the nick of time by his brother, Mender.
BEHTIA
Wing's lifemate, who Recognized him at the Festival of Flood and Flower. She
was first seen in Book 7, serving dreamberry juice to Picknose. It appears she
died before the Palace reappeared, perhaps shortly after Wing's death (she is
referred to in past tense in the Wolfrider’s Guide.)
SERRIN
Wing and Behtia's daughter, she Recognized Dart about at least 3000 years after
the Palace's disappearance, cutting him out of wrapstuff, and bore him a son,
Bowki. She still possessed the wolfblood, though it was diluted, and she lived
a somewhat longer life than a fullblooded Wolfrider. Nevertheless, she died
some time before the reappearance of the Palace.
TALMAH
Serrin's lifemate, he joined Dart and Serrin in a threemating following
Serrin's Recognition. As Dart returned to wrapstuff when Bowki was still a
child, Talmah was for all intents and purposes the boy's father. He probably
remained with Serrin until her death - it is not known whether Talmah survived
to see the Palace reappear or not.
BOWKI
Dart and Serrin's son was only one-quarter Wolfrider, though it seems he
inherited Dart's deadly aim. He was bore about 3500 years after the disappearance
of the Palace. He may have lived a very long life, due to his diluted
wolfblood, and probably survived his grandfather Wing. Bowki's
great-grandparents, Woodlock and Rainsong, died before his birth.
SKOT
Skot and Zhantee were the two elves who died in the Shards War (interesting
that neither of them were actual Wolfriders...). Skot, lifemate to Pike and
Krim, was about 500 when he faced off with the peace hound on the burning
bridge on the Citadel Mound. His spirit visited Pike at Howling Rock twice,
first immediately after his death, second when the Palace returned to rescue
the Wild Hunt.
ZHANTEE
The shy potter-turned-Jackwolf Rider died when the ceiling of the Highest Tower
collapsed. His shield managed to protect everyone but himself, and he was
crushed to death by the burning rubble. In death he told Cutter the secret to
reassembling the Palace, then followed Skot's spirit to the Shards in the
Citadel, where his spirit shielded Venka from the Djun's attack.
