The Wavedancers

Warning: contains spoilers from The Discovery.

SNAKESKIN
Snakeskin became chieftain of the Wavedancers after his father disappeared into the ocean with the dead body of Skimmer, Snakeskin's mother. When Surge returned from the deep, he and Snakeskin began a power struggle.  After Brill’s Recognition to Sunstream, Surge took the leadership of the tribe back by force, and Snakeskin relucantly challenged him for leadership. Their duel led to the collapse of Crest Point, and Surge’s own death. Snakeskin is now the unchallenged chief of the Wavedancers.

SURGE
The water-shaper disappeared into the undersea caves after the death of his lifemate Skimmer, but returned to the tribe in time to save the Wavedancer children from a boat of human whalers. His fears of the unknown recently propelled him into the realm of cartoon super-villainy, and after kidnapping his entire tribe, he battled Cutter and his own son Snakeskin, before coming to his senses and sacrificing himself to save Cutter from the collapsing Crest Point caves, which he inadvertently destroyed with his water-ram magic during the fight with Snakeskin.

SPINE
Lovemate to No-Ripple, the ladies' man of the Wavedancers, Spine is an adventurous soul eager to venture out into the seas. After Darshek was captured by humans, Spine almost found him, only to become poisoned with the "plague-spawn." Now cured, Spine is back in form, lazying about Crest Point and living the good life.

BRILL
Sunstream’s new Recognized, Brill lives with her former lovemate Skimback and his lifemate Sandsparkle. Brill had been "going-out" (atrocious pun intended) with Sunstream for some time, but her recent Recognition was still a great shock to her. After the incident with Surge and the Palace, Brill and Sunstream decided not to live together, for Sunstream is needed in the Palace and Brill can’t live away from the sea. They plan to visit each other often, both in the flesh and on the astral plane. It is yet to be seen whether their child will be raised Wolfrider or Wavedancer.

KRILL
Brill's no-nonsense twin sister is a warrior and hunter of the tribe, and can usually be seen defending her tribe from sharks or spearfishing off the reef. In love with Darshek, she left Crest Point with Darshek's mother to rescue when he was captured by Ardan Djarum. The lovemates are now reunited, and Darshek chose to stay with Krill when Surge abducted the rest of the Wavedancers.

SALT
The oldest of the Wavedancers, he is the only elf who regularly maintains a shapechanged tail. He can often be seen with Surge or Snakeskin, ready to offer advice. He is very protective of the young of his tribe, especially his daughter Foam and grandson Puffer.

SPRAY
The gentle elder seen on the famous Wavedancers cover, Spray is often the voice of calm in the tribe. She took care of Longfin when the rockshaper was anguished at the loss of her son Darshek. She can often be seen close to her lifemate Salt and her daughter Foam.

FOAM
A young Wavedancer, she is one of the gatherers, and can frequently be seen tending her nets in the rich kelp forests. She is Recognized to Strand, the gentle weaver and sailmaker, and seldom strays from her lifemate and son.

SKIMBACK
Brill's former lovemate, he Recognized Sandsparkle just before the beginning of the series, and though it appears he still have feelings for Brill, she is unwilling to share him with Sandsparkle. Skimback is the only fully matured healer in the tribe, though Snakeskin's own healing powers are fast emerging. Recently he is attempting to heal the Broken One.

LONGFIN
The sad-eyed rockshaper of the tribe has lost two lifemates to humans, and suffered during the disappearance of her son Darshek. Many years later, she is an active member of the tribe, and can be seen shaping sand sculptures for the younger pips.

DARSHEK
The son of Longfin and her first lifemate Pirn, Darshek was captured by humans when he strayed aboard Ardan Djarum's ship, and is nearly dead from the plague-spawn poison. A rescue party composed of his lovemate Krill and his mother Longfin rescued him, and Darshek is now back at Krill’s side.

SANDSPARKLE
The daughter of Longfin and Shadowcrest, who died when his daughter was just a child, Sandsparkle Recognized the healer Skimback. Their own child died young, and Sandsparkle is still grieved by the loss. She and her lifemate share a grotto with Brill, though it does not appear they have even been in a three-mating.

REDCREST
Redcrest is the woodshaper of the Wavedancers, and has built several boats to carry them both on short-term expeditions from the caves, and for the long overseas voyage the tribe is not planning to embark on. He is also the father of two sons - his lifemate Pearl is deceased. His red hair and eyes may link him as a much-removed cousin of the Wolfrider Redlance.

STRAND
The eldest son of Redcrest, Strand was a very shy and withdrawn elf until his recent Recognition with Foam. Now he finds new joy in the sea, and is a doting father to his young son. He can often be seen playing with young Puffer, either in the kelp beds, or while he works on weaving the sails of their ships.

PUFFER
Son of Foam and Strand and grandson of Salt and Spray. He often plays with his agemates, Moonmirror and Tumble, though as a child he could not keep up with their energy.

KROOSH
Strand's younger brother, Kroosh has been described as "fire in water." He is a lively elf, probably still a teenager by Wavedancer standards. He sometimes acts or speaks before he thinks, but can be counted on as a strong and brace fighter. He helped Spine escape from a pack of sharks, shortly after Spine was infected with the plague-spawn.

NO-RIPPLE
She was lifemated to Stormsong, Spine's brother, but has had to raise her son Tumble since her lifemate's death. She is now a lovemate to both Spine and Snakeskin, as is known to "bring calm like the warm waters of the tidal pools."

TUMBLE
No-Ripple's son and Spine's brother, Tumble is a restless youngster full of spirit, and has been seen sharing Kroosh's attitude towards life. He often takes risks, swimming out too far from the caves of Crest Point, and has been known to get into trouble more than once, such as when he and Moonmirror were caught in "landers'" nets.

MOONMIRROR
An orphan cub, Moonmirror's parents Drift and Fairshell were killed when she was a small child. Moonmirror still mourns them, though she has recovered her sense of fun. She appears to have developed a strong infatuation for her chief Snakeskin, though she is mostly seen in the company of Tumble and Puffer.

REEF the BROKEN ONE
He was the healer of Crest Point thousands of years before, and had the misfortune to run into Winnowill. He tried to heal her, and in what she considered self-defense she blasted him with her anti-healing magic, and twisted him into the Broken One, a deformed, insane elf who dreams visions of non-existent Wavedancers. After centuries of torment, the Broken One was healed by a tag-team of healers, and could now pass for Door’s brunette cousin.

SUNFISH aka LITTLE PRINCE OF THE SEA
A flesh-shaped form of Sunstream, the Sunfish was briefly sighted frollicking off the coast of Crest Point with Brill. The Sunfish is famed for its incongruous spines, flesh-shaped codpiece (WTF!) and complete lack of resemblance to the original Sunstream. After saying goodbye to Brill, Sunstream returned to his true form, and it’s presumed the Sunfish is now extinct in the wild.

Wavecatcher and Wavelet are survivors of a splinter group of Wavedancers in the Old Land. It is assumed their are cousins of the Crest Point Wavedancers.

WAVECATCHER
Only one of two survivors of the Cavernsong massacre in the Forevergreen, Wavecatcher first appeared in New Blood, when he surprised Yun in a pool of water. Still in love with her after so many years, Wavecatcher is now travelling through the Forevergreen with Windkin, and they just discovered the second survivor, Wavelet, in a human village.

WAVELET
She was a newborn when the Wavedancer community at Cavernsong was destroyed by humans, and Wavelet grew up in a human village, revered as the Good Spirit of Plenty. Having lived among them for perhaps 300+ years, she is overjoyed to meet Windkin and Wavecatcher.
